I have been dealing with this since August...long story
In August I went to have my Well-Woman thingy (my first in the states). A couple of weeks later I get a call, plainly telling me 'your results are slightly abnormal. you need to have a biopsy done........yadayadayada...HPV linked to cancer' and since I was always an extremely healthy person I didn't expect any different then everything to be ok. So after we hung up all I had in my head was 'yadaydayda cancer'. I tried to call again and have some question answered, because this got just casually thrown in there but I didn't get it properly explained...it took over 2 weeks to get some answers.
In september I walk in there to have the biopsy done. The doctor (turned out later that he was not even an OB GYN, he was a family practitioner) said he would have a close look and decide on the spot if he needs to go all the way and do the biopsy. He looked and said 'we leave it like that, doesn't look that concerning. just come back in 6 months for another pap'. 2 hrs later same doc calls me and says 'oh I am sorry, I didn't look at your results on file and they tell me I should have done it no matter what....its policy but not concerning' By then I was so fed up (there was a lot more that added up) that I changed my PCM to off post. My new doctor looked at the file and decided 'hmm....you are already 3 steps in out of 7 and 7 being cancer. You should have a biopsy done, but we will do another pap and an HPV test because the docs before haven't done one. (interesting huh? I got diagnosed with HPV but no test was done). Well goody, she referred me for a biopsy and after I got refused to have it done off post I went in to an actual OB GYN last week. (by then my HPV test came back negative) Interesting enough his nurse says 'wow, you have been srewed the past months huh?' Anyways, we do the whole procedure....the OB GYN does NOT know why the heck the doc before would say something like there is a policy because there isn't and he also does not understand why the HPV test is negative. They way he explains things makes sense and i think he might know what he is talking about. By now all the results are back..... my off post doc says 'all results are normal' the OB GYN says 'all the results are still abmormal and you need to come back in July to look if it progressed'.
Now riddle me this....how is it that the 2 different docs get 2 different results? and the abnormal results are all coming from the military hospital! Now I am confused and irritated and even have thought along the lines of they just make sure they have patients (I have more stories that would lead to this conclusion).... I hope that this is not a realistic thought and its just my confusion talking but I can't help but think that way. Isn't that weird?!

So... you still dont even know for sure if you have it or not?!?! What an ordeal!!! Did you tell your OBGYN with the military that a civillian doc says your results are normal? I think a normal result makes more sense since you tested negative for HPV, but its not something you can just pick the answer you want and go with it in case something really is wrong. I would go get a THIRD opinion from another civillian doctor.

Well so Civilian doctor said I don't have it and my pap is normal and military says I do have it and my pap and biopsy are abnormal. I wanted to go to a civilian OB GYN but the military hospital refused to authorize it since they offer that sorte of treatment. I got told that if they sent everyone away who requests it it would financially not be good for the hospital. Their reaction to the negative test was pretty much 'hm weird'.

how far apart were the paps? b/c HPV can clear itself. i had to have a biopsy. went back 6 months later and was fine. my bff went in for a pap that was abnormal, positive for HPV, went in a month later for the biospy, said it had cleared itself up and no biospy was needed.

I have no words of wisdom... just that your story proves my point that the military's one doctor for everything rule is ridiculous. I don't want anyone looking or diagnosing anything about my cooter unless they went to school specifically for it.

Wow! I have heard some bad things about military hospitals and this is pretty bad!
I would be kinda warry if any doctor told me I had it. You need to make an appt with a specialist so they can really see whats goin on and get you some answers.

yeah thats what we thought about it too that it might have disappeared since there were 4 months between the first pap and the HPV test. But the 2nd and 3rd pap were about 2 weeks apart...and that is what makes extra weird.

Wow, that is ridiculous. You shouldn't be having to deal with this.
I've heard that too, about HPV coming and going. But if not that, sounds like the test might have been fumbled. That happened to me with my Strep-B test when I was pregnant. You said you can't get a third opinion? What if you got retested by both doctors? Is that an option?
