So of course this is the first time I've really been on any  military post in awhile so I have to get used to it again!

What is the typical amount to tip the baggers at the commisary???

For me it depends on how much groceries I got and how far away I parked but normally its within $1-$3

If you think about it- they really can make a lot money.  It takes them max 5-6 minutes from starting bagging to getting back in the store from your car- I realize they are on a rotation and some days are busier than others but they can make upwards of $25/hr tax free...

I only go twice a month, so I always feel bad and tip $5. If they were really nice and remembered not to break my eggs I might say Thank You also...

I don't shop at the commissary any more.  Ours here is too expensive, you save a lot going off post.  Plus the baggers are very blunt.  I tipped a woman 2 bucks once (I had a whopping 2 bags and would have happily carried them myself if she hadn't stood guard over them), and she actually looked at it and said "Thats it?!?".  I heard one chew a woman out for not tipping her and after going over found out it was the woman's first time at a commissary and didn't know.

I don't tip.Sorry but most of the baggers here bag really heavy and are rude plus I am sorry but I can carry them and bag my self if they would let me.One bad thing about the comissaries here is they can't bag for poop.

If they bag my groceries I normally take them myself... and so I tip 1-3 bucks.

I figure if I carry them out myself then I am burning extra calories that need to come off anyway. lol

But back at Campbell I was known to talk shit and almost fought one.

I went today too! On base though, I'd never go to the NEX com on payday. Im not crazy ;)

And I tip a buck if they bag it and I have a lot of stuff and still walk it out myself. I hate how slow they are and I have a way of putting stuff in my car so it doesnt fall over. But normally I go to self checkout anyways.

The other day I had one old lady give me the dirtiest look when I handed her my green bags and said 'im gonna take this out myself thanks'

i tip if they take my bags to the car, but i go with my hubby every other sunday morning and we just do it ourselves... and i'm not going to tip the baggers that stand at the end of the belt, because half the time they do a crappy job anyway. but we ALWAYS get dirty looks from the baggers when we say we are taking them ourselves.

When i have cash on me ill tiip like 3 dollars...but if i dont have cash they dont get a tip. They are RUDE and they SUCK at bagging. I always bring my groceries out to the car myself so what the hell is the point? I do pretty much ALL the work and i already have to pay for the groceries themself so why the hell would i pay more for someone to do their JOB...doesnt make sense. And let some bagger yell at me...that will be freakin HILARIOUS

I would like to see a bagger yell at me, When we first got here we didn't even know about tipping(first duty station) i  had a teenage boy say "god we bag there grocerys and they dont even pay us" I stopped in my tracks, turned around and was about to chew him out and my husband grabbed me and was like fuck him let it go..

the only reason i tip is because they do that job as "volunteer"

but they SIGN UP to be volunteers knowing that they dont get paid, therefor they shoulnd't bitch!.. get a real job lol

i usually dont tip the only time i do is when someone goes above and beyond the way i see it is you apply to be a bagger so thats your job now if you do your job really good and go above and beyond then you get tipped, also i always pay with my debit card i never carry cash in my purse...

Ive only tipped once and it was some kid that bagged my move into my house groceries so i had alot he did it all by him self on top of putting things the way they are suppose to be and asked if a certain thing could go in the bag with something else, he did such a good job with the bagging i felt bad for saying back in the cart so i can take it myself, i ended up using some of my just in case cash i leave in the car to tip the kid i was impressed...

I was re-reading this with my hubby and I'm sitting here thinking man if I were to go be a bagger there I could probably make quite a bit! First off I will waddle my preggo self out to their car to help put away groceries, and I love working with people so I'd always be nice... i could get tipped pretty well for being nice, knowing how to bag groceries properly, and being preggo haha. now would I ever do it? heck no... but it was a fun thought.

Wow, so I have to say that by reading these I don't want to shop at a lot of ya'lls commisaries lol.  We live at Camp Lejeune and my husband is deployed right now.  Even though I pass three other grocery stores on my way to the base I still shop there because it means that I don't have to put my groceries in my car.  I've never had any complaints about any of our baggers so I tip well ($8 - $10) but I also buy $200+ each time I go.  I consider it a luxury to not have to stand in the heat and humidy and put all those bags into my trunk.  If I had baggers like ya'lls though I'd shop elsewhere.
